Service Autopilot is stronger for configurable recurring dispatch; Jobber for a balanced quote-to-invoice workflow; Yardbook for budget; LMN for cost discipline; and SingleOps for route-capacity and material controls.

This comparison is for a US owner, operations manager, or dispatcher running roughly 3–8 lawn-care or landscape-maintenance crews. Work repeats weekly, biweekly, monthly, or by seasonal round. The office must preserve route density while accounting for crew hours, equipment or material limits, access promises, and per-visit versus fixed-period billing.
The defining job is specific: rain cancels 25 visits. The dispatcher must recover them without shifting future occurrences, creating duplicate stops, overloading routes, assigning one trailer twice, sending contradictory notices, or generating the wrong invoice.
Not covered: a solo operator needing a basic calendar; mainly long design-build projects; enterprise ERP; or payroll, tax, safety, pesticide, worker-classification, and employment-law decisions. Those require another shortlist or qualified advice.
What “rainout-ready” actually means
A credible rainout workflow identifies affected occurrences, preserves the original plan, moves them in a controlled batch, rebuilds routes around capacity, notifies customers after approval, and reconciles completion, labor, and billing. The series should return to its normal cadence unless the dispatcher deliberately changes the master schedule.
- Occurrence: move Monday to Wednesday without changing future Mondays.
- Collision: flag an existing visit on the recovery day.
- Route: regroup geographically after dates change.
- Capacity: account for hours, fixed windows, travel, materials, and scarce equipment; know whether the product warns or blocks.
- Communication: show recipient, date, channel, send, delivery, failure, and opt-out status.
- Financial: never complete, cost, or invoice unperformed work.

Do not select from the table alone. Every finalist should process the same anonymized rainout batch. A sophisticated product can corrupt a series; a cheaper one can work if a reliable checklist supplies the missing guardrails.

Score each criterion 1–5 and multiply by its weight. A 3 requires a documented manual control. Series corruption, duplicate billing, exposed data, unusable time records, or no viable export overrides the total.
Synthetic test: recover 25 jobs across four crews
The fictional company has an owner, dispatcher, four leads, eight field employees, four trucks, three mowing trailers, and one aeration trailer. Rain cancels 25 of Monday’s 32 visits before departure: 18 weekly mow-and-edge, five biweekly maintenance, and two aeration visits sharing the single trailer. Billing mixes per-visit, fixed monthly, and deposit-plus-final-invoice work.

Crew Control: best direct fit for a simple recurring-route operation
Best fit: an owner-led maintenance company wanting a straightforward schedule, recurring jobs, routes, crew dispatch, time, and billing. Poor fit: enforced equipment reservations, detailed inventory or project costing, multi-location control, or a clearly specified full export.
Crew Control documents one-time and recurring work, multi-job moves, an unscheduled holding area, weather adjustments, route optimization, daily electronic route sheets, and live crew updates. Customer texts are listed on Plus; both plans include scheduling, routing, time, invoices, payments, reporting, and QuickBooks Online.
Rates are $39 per month per crew or $59 for Plus, with 30% annual savings advertised. Four crews start at $156 or $236 before discounts, processing, and tax. The no-card trial lasts 14 days. Subscriptions auto-renew; current terms require cancellation at least 10 business days before renewal. Confirm what counts as a crew, seasonal changes, SMS, payments, and annual billing.
Implementation, support, export, and security: test four crews and 25 anonymized visits before a full import. Prove series preservation and that notices use approved dates. Terms allow only product-supported exports and 60 days of limited post-termination access after normal termination; obtain samples for schedules, recurrence, time, invoices, notes, files, and IDs early. No Crew Control-specific public MFA, equipment-conflict rule, or attestation was found. Review Aspire’s DPA and require roles, backups, breach, location, and deletion answers.
Service Autopilot: best for configurable recurring dispatch and route economics
Best fit: a route-dense company prepared to configure services, master schedules, resources, waiting-list work, time, costing, and close-out. Poor fit: light setup, transparent all-in pricing, or self-service portability without contract review.
The Dispatch Board guide documents bulk rescheduling and reassignment. Moving one occurrence leaves the rest on cadence; future rounds change only through the master schedule. Waiting-list work suits uncertain weather or equipment dates. Completed work can become an invoice line, and a locked-invoice job cannot move until unlocked—useful controls for the rainout test.
Startup is $49 per month, Pro $199, and Pro Plus $499; these are annual-subscription rates and an unpublished sign-up fee applies. Pro adds routes, dispatch, job costing, assets, and reports. Pro Plus adds automations and five mobile plus one business license. Quote-based Elite lists texting, Smart Maps, client portal, QuickBooks, eight mobile, and two business licenses. Terms permit a 7% annual increase, require 30 days’ nonrenewal notice and 60 days for downgrade, and can charge remaining fees after early termination.
Implementation, support, integrations, export, and security: texting registration can take weeks. QuickBooks eligibility conflicts across official pages, so obtain it in writing. Granular rights, encryption, backups, PCI-related controls, and US storage are documented claims, not our audit. “Critical data” is said to be exportable, but no complete schema is public; require recurrence, visits, routes, time, assets, invoices, messages, files, and stable IDs.
Jobber: best balanced workflow from quote through recurring invoice
Best fit: an operator wanting one broadly used workflow for requests, quotes, recurring visits, routes, field checklists, time, invoices, payments, and QuickBooks Online. Poor fit: hard trailer/material reservations or assumed automatic bulk notices.
Jobber’s New Schedule documentation, updated August 2026 and still described as available to try, supports bulk rescheduling or reassignment; a visit can remain unscheduled until capacity is known. The recurring-job model separates the job from its visits and supports per-visit or fixed-price invoicing. An individual date move can prompt a reviewed email or text for that occurrence. Bulk reassignments do not trigger that prompt; prove notice review, delivery, and logging for bulk date moves in trial.
Connect, Grow, and Plus include route optimization for anytime visits, using driving distance, selectable start/end stops, and up to seven days; only an admin can run it and timed visits are excluded. Grow adds job costing. For six logins, the 10-user Grow selector lists $399 monthly with no commitment, $349 monthly with a one-year commitment, or $299 per month billed annually. The expired promotional price is excluded. Confirm New Schedule access in the actual account and retain a documented legacy-schedule recovery procedure until the dispatcher has tested the new interface. Pricing can change. Monthly subscriptions renew until canceled; annual prepayments are generally nonrefundable, so obtain the exact term and renewal price.
Implementation, support, integrations, export, and security: the 14-day no-card trial includes Grow access; chat, phone, and email support are listed. QuickBooks Online, Zapier, and Gusto are documented. Exports are split across client, recurring-job, visit, and other reports; test files, messages, checklists, relationships, custom fields, invoices, and IDs. Custom permissions exist on select plans, while two-step verification is documented for account owners using Jobber Payments. Require broader MFA, retention, deletion, and equipment-control answers.
Yardbook: best budget option when the dispatcher supplies the guardrails
Best fit: a cost-sensitive operator willing to supply process controls around a flexible job, route, invoice, and employee system. Poor fit: hard capacity enforcement, a long planning horizon, or optimization that respects fixed times automatically.
Yardbook documents recurring jobs, batch rescheduling, week shifts, route-based assignment, and multi-day map selection. A dispatcher can map nearby jobs, move them to a date, then optimize up to 100 stops. The optimizer minimizes distance but explicitly ignores start times, so place and verify fixed appointments manually. Its recurring-job page says occurrences are generated two months ahead; test whether that horizon supports seasonal planning.
Starter is free. Business is $34.99 per month and adds bulk email, Twilio-based texts, GPS, backups, and invoice reminders. Enterprise is $49.99 and adds QuickBooks sync and a branded portal. A weather-delay text template is documented, not an automatic reconciled workflow. Test filters, Twilio cost, opt-outs, replies, failures, and date merge fields. Paid service continues through the purchased package; current terms say deleted account data may remain for up to 30 days.
Implementation, support, integrations, export, and security: Yardbook tracks time by job, preserves a timesheet audit trail, and supports equipment check-out and maintenance; none proves double-booking prevention. Advanced access controls, SSL transmission, and AWS file storage are documented, but broad MFA was not found. CSV exports cover several objects; require a complete sample migration package rather than treating “backup” as portability.
LMN: best when estimating and cost control outweigh rainout simplicity
Best fit: a landscape company that wants its operating budget, production rates, estimates, crew time, equipment and material costs, job actuals, invoices, and accounting handoff connected. Poor fit: a company buying primarily for inexpensive, one-action rainout recovery or one that will not invest in setup and training.
LMN by Granum documents whiteboard scheduling, bulk date/crew/status changes, route optimization, ordered unscheduled routes, live crew maps, offline access, time, GPS verification, and weather notes. Unscheduled routes can hold optimized work until a date is known. Its FAQ suggests an equipment-named calendar as a manual scarce-equipment control. Require a live demonstration of series preservation, notices, reversal, and the exact 25-visit flow.
Starter begins at $297 per month with one office/crew-lead and five crew-member licenses. Professional begins at $648 with three office/crew-lead and 15 crew-member licenses, plus job, equipment, and material costing and Zapier. Extra licenses and a one-time onboarding fee apply; SMS is listed at $75 setup plus $30 monthly. Quote by role, not only headcount.
Implementation, support, integrations, export, and security: pricing lists launch/onboarding, chat, customer-success access, group training, and an online academy. LMN exports contacts to CSV and supports controlled QuickBooks exports for estimates, approved timesheets, invoices, and other records. Its terms say subscriptions may be monthly or annual, require 30 days’ termination notice, may make the remaining annual fees due, and hold subscriber data for only 30 days after notice. Export early. Granum documents user permissions, firewalls, intrusion detection, and other measures, but this review is not a security audit; request MFA, audit, backup restoration, incident, subprocessor, and data-location evidence.
SingleOps: best for route-capacity and operational controls
Best fit: a multi-crew landscape, tree, or plant-health operation that needs map-based scheduling, batch moves, route capacity, production rates, labor, materials, inventory, and real job-cost visibility. Poor fit: a buyer with a modest software budget, one office login, or a process that cannot tolerate an irreversible bulk action.
SingleOps Plus includes the Route Planner, batch rescheduling, timesheets, weather-data recording, measurements, production rates, and QuickBooks Desktop; Essential includes the core calendar, invoicing, payments, communication, and QuickBooks Online. Premier adds route optimization and memorization, inventory, purchase orders, reporting, GPS-related options, and more automations. Route capacity can total labor or material quantities—for example, route hours or tank capacity—and turns red when exceeded. The documentation explicitly says it does not prevent scheduling, so the dispatcher still owns the decision.
Batch rescheduling is available on Plus and Premier and cannot be undone. Route optimization is Premier-only, works on a whole route, and cannot exclude a stop; controlled-time visits should not be optimized. For recurring work, the user may apply changed times to all later uncompleted visits, which is useful for memorized routes but dangerous in a one-day rainout. The weather field records conditions based on the device location; it is not evidence of forecast-driven automatic rescheduling. Customer email and text are documented, but the reviewed batch-reschedule guide does not promise automatic notices, so test the handoff.
Essential is $220 monthly or $200 per month billed annually; Plus is $385 or $350; Premier is $550 or $500. Extra office or sales users cost $55/$50 on Essential, $115/$100 on Plus, and $150/$125 on Premier; crew-user licenses are documented as included. Two office users on Premier therefore start around $700 month-to-month or $625 per month on the annual rate, before implementation, payments, messages, GPS, add-ons, or taxes.
Implementation, support, integrations, export, and security: pricing lists dedicated implementation, customer success, and live support. CSV reports require testing for relationships, files, messages, recurrence, routes, and accounting IDs. Current terms require 60 days’ nonrenewal notice, permit increases up to 5%, and allow a data-export request within 30 days after termination. Roles are documented; request MFA, audit-log, backup, deletion, location, and breach-notice answers.

These figures are screening estimates, not total cost. Add at least one month of overlap, data cleanup, configuration, crew training, payment and SMS usage, devices, integrations, support tiers, migration assistance, taxes, and the cost of maintaining a manual control that the product lacks. Compare the first 12 months and the steady-state renewal year. A $50 tool that creates one duplicate charge or loses a recurring route is not cheaper than a $250 tool that passes the workflow—and an expensive tool is not better if the team will bypass it.
Seven-day trial or vendor proof-of-work
Not every vendor provides self-service trial access. Where a trial is unavailable, require a live sandbox demonstration using your anonymized data and let your dispatcher direct the clicks. Record the session with permission, save every export, and write down each workaround and unanswered question.
- Day 1—protect and define. Export customers, properties, recurring schedules, prices, assignments, and open invoices from the current system. Keep the source read-only. Define a visit ID and series ID. Expected outcome: dated backup, field map, owners, and rollback criteria.
- Day 2—configure the smallest real model. Create four crews, working hours, three trailers, service durations, fixed windows, permissions, invoice modes, and message templates. Expected outcome: a controlled test environment with no live customer sends or charges.
- Day 3—build normal recurrence. Import or create the 25 jobs, plus the unaffected Monday and Tuesday work. Generate future visits and baseline four dense routes. Expected outcome: correct weekly/biweekly cadence, assignments, prices, and route sequence.
- Day 4—declare the rainout. Snapshot Monday, select the 25 occurrences, move them into the Tuesday–Friday recovery pattern, handle collisions, reserve the aeration trailer, and reroute. Expected outcome: no future-series shift, no overload, no equipment double-booking, and a reversible change log.

Timekeeping, workforce, privacy, and security caveats
Scheduling status, GPS position, and payroll-ready time are different records. A rainout may still include compensable reporting, loading, shop, travel, equipment, or cleanup time depending on the facts and applicable law. At the US federal level, Department of Labor Fact Sheet #21 says covered employers must maintain accurate daily and weekly hours and wage records; payroll records generally must be kept at least three years and records supporting wage calculations generally two years. It permits different timekeeping methods only if records are complete and accurate. State and local wage, break, travel, reporting-time, predictive-scheduling, GPS, biometric, privacy, and retention rules may add obligations.
The IRS says worker status turns on the actual relationship, including behavioral control, financial control, and the type of relationship. Calling someone a contractor in scheduling software does not decide classification. Have a qualified payroll, HR, tax, accounting, or legal professional review worker types, jurisdictions, time capture, overtime, correction approvals, retention, GPS notice/consent, payroll mapping, and audit access. This guide is operational software-selection information, not individualized legal, tax, accounting, payroll, or employment advice.
For every finalist, create owner, dispatcher, crew-lead, field-worker, bookkeeper, and external-accountant test roles. Verify view, edit, export, delete, refund, schedule, time-approval, and message rights. Ask for MFA scope, SSO if needed, encryption, audit logs, session controls, mobile-device revocation, backup and restore tests, disaster recovery, data locations, subprocessors, incident notice, retention, deletion, and payment responsibilities. A privacy policy and a PCI-enabled payment provider do not prove that your account is configured securely.
Recommendation by operating model
- Choose Crew Control Plus first when simple recurring route recovery, per-crew pricing, live crew updates, and customer texts are the primary needs—and the vendor passes export, security, and equipment-control gates.
- Choose Service Autopilot first when route density, master schedules, waiting-list work, job costing, and configurable dispatch justify a more involved implementation and quote.
- Choose Jobber first when the office needs a balanced request-to-quote-to-recurring-visit-to-invoice workflow and can control bulk notices and equipment outside the schedule.
- Choose Yardbook first when subscription cost matters most and a disciplined dispatcher can manage fixed times, capacity warnings, message reconciliation, and periodic exports.
- Choose LMN first when estimates, overhead recovery, labor/equipment/material costing, and job profitability are more important than the shortest rainout workflow.
- Choose SingleOps Premier first when route capacity, production rates, inventory, and structured multi-crew operations justify the price and the team can control irreversible batch changes.
Shortlist two, not six. For most 3–8-crew recurring-maintenance operators, begin with Crew Control Plus and either Service Autopilot or Jobber.
